Centro Vela is based in an ancient fisherman's house at the center of the village of Cerro di Laveno. The village has fantastic views across the Lake and the surrounding Alps, especially in the evenings, when the sun sets behind Mount Rose.
Cerro di Laveno can be easily reached by car, by train and by ferry: it is less than 65 km from Milan, 28 km from Lugano and 31 km from Malpensa International Airport and It is located only 15 km from the Swiss border.
There is a frequent train service connecting Laveno to Milan, Switzerland and Malpensa Airport, and a ferry which runs regularly from/to the Piedmont side.
Above the school, on the shore, there ia a guesthouse which can sleep up to 14 people . The accommodation is basic, consisting of 2 bedrooms , 1 large, 1 small and a bathroom, breakfast can be taken at a nearby cafe (prices on request).

Within 10 km you can find the most famous and prestigious hotel on Lake Maggiore. They are ideal for corporate conventions, events, incentives and private ceremonies. Along the lake from Stresa to Pallanza there is a great choice.
In Laveno you can practice the following sports:
Hand gliding and Paragliding: from Sasso del Ferro and Monte Nudo. There are two flying clubs.
Tennis: in Laveno you will find tennis courts (behind the train station)
Gyms: in Laveno there is a gym with swimming pool and sauna, in the villages nearby two large gyms with swimming pool and playing fields.
Cycling: Laveno also has 2 cycle and walking paths. A short one which follows the river to Cittiglio the next town and a longer one which connects to Luino, another lakeside town 18 km away.
Directly behind Cerro is a protected nature reserve, it is an old peat bog. Here you are free to wander in the middle of nature or follow one of the many signed walks.

A highlight in Laveno is Sasso del Ferro. A short cable car ride will take you to the summit, here there are amazing views across three lakes.. On a clear day it is said you can see Milan. There is a bar, restaurant and hotel from which to enjoy these views and the possibility, for those brave enough, to hand glide or paraglide down!
Laveno also has the ferry stop from which you can buy a pass and spend all day traveling around the lake. Make sure to get off at one of the Borromeos Islands. Pescatore if you wish you eat, Madre for botanical gardens and the most famous Bella, where Napoleon stayed the night.. to visit an amazingly elaborate palace and gardens
In Cerro itself you can discover the Church of San Defendente built in the IX.
In the centre of Cerro there is the International Ceramics Museum (MIDeC), where you can find a large collection, including some of the best pieces produced in the Laveno Ceramics Factory which closed in 1970. This was a large factory with over 5000 employees and its works were sort after all over Europe.
Santa Caterina Del Sasso is an monastery built into the rockface in 1200... inside you will find the mummified body of the hermit … the rest of the story we will leave for you to discover… it is only 3km from Cerro.
If you explore the surrounding area you will find castles, towers, villas, churches which are part of the artistic heritage of Italy.
